PATHWAYS to Intercultural and Political Education for a European Citizenship

The Pathways project is a 2 year partnership project, involving learning organisations from Austria, Belgium, Norway, Germany and the UK.
Cultural diversity is not just visible and effective across borders, but is also present within regional, communal and political relationships of each nation e.g. differences between generations. In those border zones of cultural and political life world of people, exclusion does happen, but so does exchange. So each learner has an intercultural background and experience in his respective life world which has an influence on his learning behaviour and the political and intercultural education in educational courses.
Most citizen not aware that intercultural education is an important element in the life long learning curriculum. Due to the fact of ally and the growing of the European Union European citizen face several changes in their political-, professional- as well as social environment.
“Everyone has values” this is what brings PATHWAYS together and what can be seen as the basis of this learning partnership. PATHWAYS brings together 6 organisations who work in the field of adult education and who all support the idea of lifelong learning. Each of the organisations involved in this partnership already has their PATHWAYS to political and intercultural education. Through the learning partnership those values and/or experiences can be transferred and compared on a European level.
The central aim of PATHWAYS is therefore the exchange of ideas, experiences, educational methods and good practice examples among the partners about the implementation of intercultural and political education in the EU. This shall lead to develop so called "PATHWAYS to intercultural and political education for a European Citizenship” and to gain knowledge on acceptance and dissemination of political and cultural education..

European Community Education Across Borders
Programm für Lebenslanges Lernen / Grundtvig Lernpartnerschaft LLP/AT-430/14/08
The aim of the learning partnership is to further active and European citizenship ‘from below’, enabling citizens to build communities across internal borders and cultural division lines. The project builds upon the field knowledge of local community educators working in of urban neighbourhoods and rural districts.
Partners are institutions in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Ireland. During a range of local workshops and enquiry visits they will exchange best practices of community education in complex and sensitive situations. Topics include the furthering of good-neighbour relations between former enemies (‘Eurode’), connecting people across the former Iron Curtain (Burgenland), thwarting lines of armed conflict (Vigo /Ireland), and preventing the seclusion of ‘old’ and ‘new’ migrant groups (Frankfurt, Amsterdam).
The partners expect that the learning partnership will result in innovative methods of community education, toolkits for specific topics and practical suggestions. By building an interdisciplinary team of experts, they will support local community educators and facilitate a European network for knowledge sharing. Finally, through local media and public events, the partnership will enhance professional and public understanding of active European citizenship at neighbourhood level.

Programm für Lebenslanges Lernen / Grundtvig Lernpartnerschaft
Die Burgenländische Forschungsgesellschaft ist Partner in der Grundtvig-Lernpartnerschaft „Creative in Difference – Creative Approaches for Diversity Trainings". Weitere Partnerinstitutionen unter der Koordination der deutschen Einrichtung ILE-Berlin stammen aus Krakau (Polen), Quartu Sant’Elena (Sardinien/Italien), Reykjavik (Island) und Cardigan (Wales/UK).
Ziel des Projekts ist die Entwicklung neuer Ansätze zur Begegnung sozialer oder kultureller Vorurteile. Mithilfe unterschiedlicher methodischer „Werkzeuge“ soll das Bewusstsein für den Wert der sozialen und kulturellen Vielfalt in europäischen Gesellschaften sowie Verständnis für die Wirkungsweisen individueller und gesellschaftlicher Ausschlussmechanismen aufgezeigt werden.

Eine Sammlung weiblicher Biografien
Programm für Lebenslanges Lernen / Grundtvig Lernpartnerschaft
Die Burgenländische Forschungsgesellschaft koordiniert die Grundtvig-Lernpartnerschaft "Frauen ergreifen Chancen", Partner sind Einrichtungen aus Deutschland (Berlin), Polen (Krakau), der Tschechischen Republik (Brno) und der Slowakei (Bratislava).
Ziel des Projekts ist die Motivation von Frauen jeden Alters zur Teilnahme an Aktivitäten des lebenslangen Lernens. Dazu werden in allen 5 Partnerländern mehrere Interviews mit Frauen durchgeführt, die ihre Erstausbildung schon vor längerer Zeit abgeschlossen haben, durch Erwachsenenbildung ihre persönliche Situation jedoch entscheidend verbessern konnten - sei es, dass sie dadurch überhaupt am Arbeitsmarkt Fuß fassen konnten oder einen interessanteren oder besser bezahlten Job fanden.
Diese vorbildhaften Lernbiografien werden in Form einer Broschüre veröffentlicht und verbreitet, um die Chancen des Lebenslangen Lernens aufzuzeigen - vor allem für Frauen, die in ihrer Jugend wenig Möglichkeiten zur Bildungspartizipation hatten. Des weiteren wird diese Broschüre durch einen Serviceteil ergänzt, in dem Erwachsenenbildungsangebote sowie Informations- und Fördermöglichkeiten für Weiterbildungswillige angeführt werden.
