| Marietta Radocz Fluk was born in 1932 in Stadtschlaining, a small town in south Burgenland, Austria. Her father, Ludwig Radocz was from Budapest. Her mother, Ilona Heinrich Radocz and all her family were from Stadtschlaining. Her father was an artist who did some of the painting in the church of Stadtschlaining. Her parents got divorced when she was three years old. Marietta's only memory of the year 1938 is of the Nazis coming to the door and her mother telling her to keep quiet. The Nazi soldiers then searched the house. The family was forced to flee from Stadtschlaining. With the help of some very good friends they were able to escape to Vienna. From there Marietta, her mother and her uncle, Arthur Heinrich, were able to migrate to the USA. Some other members of the family had left Stadtschlaining before, and they helped bring them to the United States. Her half-sister and her father went to Budapest. Marietta has not heard from either of them. In 2001 Marietta Fluk visited Stadtschlaining for the first time since 1938. She died in June 2008. |
