| The children Fedor, Rudolf and Serena Heinrich had a happy childhood in Großpetersdorf. Their father ran a grocery store, which he had taken over from his grandfather. The family could afford to let Fedor and Rudolf visit the grammar school, first in Oberschützen, later in Eisenstadt. On the 21st of April 1938, everything changed completely. The Gestapo seized the father's shop, the goods were stolen, the family was robbed of all its possessions. They had to leave Burgenland within 4 days. Thanks to the uncle, Alexander Heinrich, who worked at the Italia Shipping Line, and later also fled, they were able to go to Argentina via Triest. Life in the first years of forced emigration was hard and full of deprivation. Fedor and Rudolf Heinrich decided to train as goldsmiths. They later founded a shop for tools, iron- and metalware, which they ran until their retirement in 1994. Serena died in 1997, Rudolf in 2008. Fedor Heinrich lives in Buenos Aires. |
